米連邦通信委員会（FCC）は7月9日（現地時間）、鏡で太陽光を反射して夜の地上を照らす衛星「Eärendil-1」の試験打ち上げを承認した。開発元は米宇宙企業Reflect Orbital。同社は将来的に5万基を軌道に展開する構想を掲げているが、夜空を明るくすれば天体観測や生態系への影響は避けられないとして、科学者からは反発の声が上がっている。
