米連邦航空局（FAA）と米運輸省（DOT）は9月21日（現地時間）、AIを活用した航空交通管理システム「SMART」（Strategic Management of Airspace, Routes and Trajectories）の試験運用を始めたと発表した。試験の対象は、首都ワシントンDC周辺のレーガン・ナショナル空港、ダレス国際空港、ボルチモア・ワシントン国際空港の3空港だ。FAAは今後、ほかの空港にも順次広げる計画だ。
