現生のネコ科動物として100年以上ぶりとなる新種が、南米ボリビアの雲霧林（霧や低い雲に覆われることの多い山地林）で見つかった。論文は9月17日（現地時間）、米科学誌「Current Biology」に掲載された。新種は「Leopardus tilcayo（ティルカヨ）」と名付けられた。
